Job Description

About Anthropic

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About the role

As Anthropic's first Marketing hire in Japan, you will be responsible for establishing and executing our marketing execution in one of our most important markets. This is a unique opportunity to build our marketing presence from the ground up, working across all aspects of marketing focusing on partner marketing, localized messaging, event management, and regional brand building. You will be the face of Anthropic's marketing efforts in Japan, collaborating closely with our key partners, global marketing team, and sales leadership, to drive adoption, and growth of Claude.

In this role, you will build strong relationships with cloud providers and system integrators, develop localized messaging that resonates with Japanese audiences, execute integrated marketing campaigns, and create engaging experiences through events and digital channels. As our foundational marketing hire in Japan, you will have the opportunity to shape our approach and build scalable programs as we grow.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing plan for Japan, focusing on activating our ecosystem in Japan to sell on our behalf, aligned with Anthropic's enterprise marketing objectives and regional business goals
  • Build and manage partner marketing relationships with cloud providers (AWS, Google Cloud), system integrators, and resellers to drive co-marketing initiatives
  • Create and localize marketing messaging, content, and materials that resonate with Japanese enterprise customers and reflect cultural nuances
  • Plan and execute demand gen and events including partner workshops, industry conferences, webinars, and customer roundtables to generate pipeline and build brand awareness
  • Coordinate with product marketing to adapt global product launches, announcements, and campaigns for the Japanese market
  • Develop and execute digital marketing campaigns including email, social media, and content marketing to drive demand and engagement
  • Collaborate with sales teams to create sales enablement materials, customer presentations, and case studies
  • Manage marketing budgets including partner marketing development funds (MDF) to maximize ROI
  • Track and analyze marketing performance metrics, providing regular reporting on campaign effectiveness, pipeline contribution, and market impact
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Japan and global marketing teams, ensuring alignment on priorities, messaging, and execution
  • Build relationships with media, analysts, and influencers in the Japanese AI and technology ecosystem
  • Represent Anthropic at industry events and conferences, serving as a brand ambassador and thought leader

You may be a good fit if you

  • Are a native Japanese speaker with business-level English proficiency
  • Have 7+ years of marketing experience, ideally in B2B technology, enterprise software, or cloud computing
  • Have demonstrated success building marketing programs from the ground up, ideally as a first or early marketing hire in a region
  • Understand the Japanese enterprise technology market, including cultural nuances, buying behaviors, and decision-making processes
  • Have experience with partner marketing and managing relationships with cloud providers, system integrators, or technology partners
  • Are comfortable wearing multiple hats and executing across various marketing functions including events, content, digital campaigns, and partner marketing
  • Excel at localizing global marketing strategies while maintaining brand consistency and messaging integrity
  • Have strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Japanese and English
  • Are a self-starter who thrives in ambiguous, fast-paced environments with minimal structure
  • Have experience planning and executing both virtual and in-person events
  • Are data-driven with experience tracking marketing metrics and demonstrating ROI

Strong candidates may also have

  • Experience working at a technology startup or high-growth company in a similar foundational role
  • Background in AI/ML, cloud computing, or developer-focused technology marketing
  • Established network of contacts within the Japanese technology, media, and analyst community
  • Experience with marketing automation platforms, CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), and analytics tools
  • Knowledge of demand generation strategies and lead nurturing programs
  • Understanding of the partner ecosystem in Japan (AWS Partner Network, Google Cloud Partner Network, etc.)
  • Experience building and managing marketing budgets and vendor relationships
  • Interest in or knowledge of AI safety and responsible AI development
  • Experience collaborating with global teams across multiple time zones

Deadline to apply: None. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Logistics

Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.

We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.

Come work with us!

Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
